Senior Scholarships
Senior Scholarships
Each year, Leonia High School is proud to offer nearly 35 different scholarships to our graduating seniors. These opportunities are made possible through the generosity of individuals and organizations who give their time and resources to support our students. Many of these scholarships provide multiple awards, allowing us to recognize and assist a wide range of deserving seniors.
We encourage all seniors to review the scholarship descriptions carefully to determine which opportunities match their qualifications and interests. Please read below for important details about eligibility and the application process.

The Mrs. Lav Memorial Scholarship is established in honor of Donna Lavorerio, a longtime Leonia School District science teacher. She taught life sciences and biology in both middle school and high school within the district. While teaching was her career, her passion was reaching every student where they were and helping them become the best and most educated version of themselves. She was motivated to elevate every student to a higher level and standard, and tried to do this by making her classroom a place to have fun while learning foundational subjects.
Her family has decided to further her goal of increasing opportunities for all students by
establishing this scholarship. The scholarship will recognize one Leonia High School student per graduating class who meets the criteria by awarding $10,000 to be used for community college, university, trade school or technical school tuition. The scholarship criteria are designed to support Mrs. Lav’s firm belief that talent and potential are distributed across the student body.
Criteria:
Graduating senior in good academic standing, with a grade point average of at least 3.0.
The student should demonstrate active involvement in the community, including but
not limited to participation in school clubs, extracurricular activities, sports, or part-time

degrees, but can also be awarded to students pursuing other forms of post-high school
education provided it leads to meaningful educational or employment opportunities.

addressing how a teacher has positively impacted their life, and how they have sought to “pay it forward” within their community. The essay should also address the student’s aspirations for post-high school education and how the scholarship will help them achieve those goals.
