From our ninth-grade STEM students’ creative Mole Day celebration to hands-on learning beyond the classroom, this week showcased our students’ curiosity and enthusiasm. We also celebrated outstanding athletic accomplishments, including our volleyball team’s division title and strong performances by our cross country teams. Congratulations to our students and staff for giving us so much to celebrate!
Next week, PSAT testing will take place on Wednesday for all students in grades 10 and 11. On Thursday evening, we look forward to welcoming seventh- and eighth-grade students and their families to our Open House.
Friday is a half day, and students may wear Halloween costumes. All costumes must follow school dress code guidelines. Masks and weapons of any type are prohibited.
Thank you for your continued support, and have a wonderful weekend!
Go Lions!

LHS Writers Club is kicking off a brand-new tradition for Beat Night: this year, the stage belongs strictly to original student talent. Whether you’re a poet taking the mic to perform your own freshly drafted slam poetry, a songwriter performing your own track (or a song written by a fellow student), a dancer with original choreography, an artist showcasing your work in a slideshow, or performing an original skit or stand-up set, the community wants to see you shine!
Beat Night will be in February this year. Start brainstorming, writing, and rehearsing your acts now! Official sign-up details are coming soon, but if you have questions or want to learn more, reach out to Mrs. Mulholland via email. Stay tuned, and get ready to create!

Five LHS student-athletes represented Leonia at the annual NJIC Sportsmanship Summit, hosted yesterday by New Milford High School. Seniors Daniella Cameron and Dominique Cameron, along with juniors Thomas Dahiya, Rebecca Herzig, and Samuel Klein, joined peers from across the North Jersey Interscholastic Conference to explore the importance of sportsmanship and positive leadership.
Through interactive discussions and collaborative activities, students explored how athletes and spectators help create a respectful, supportive environment at athletic events. The summit emphasized key sportsmanship values and the importance of upholding the spectator code of conduct.
Thank you to our student representatives for helping promote respect, responsibility, and Lion pride on and off the field!

Science, music, and creativity took center stage today as our ninth-grade STEM Academy cohort hosted Leonia High School’s Mole Day celebration! Students welcomed their classmates with a lively performance of “A Mole is a Unit,” featuring a French horn and amplified electric guitars.
Students also showed off their artistic talents in a mole-drawing competition, submitting their best mole artwork in the event brochure. Thank you to our STEM Academy students for bringing energy, creativity, and school spirit to a memorable morning of science!

French II and III students combined creativity and language learning in a classroom activity centered on respect. Each student created a paper self-portrait and selected a French vocabulary word representing how they show respect toward others, adding a drawing or symbol to illustrate its meaning.
Students then connected their figures to create colorful garlands for the classroom, turning their individual expressions of respect into a shared display of kindness and connection.

Our AP European History and AP World History students recently stepped back in time during an immersive field trip to The Met Cloisters in Upper Manhattan. Perched high above the Hudson River in Fort Tryon Park, the museum, constructed from the architectural elements of several medieval European abbeys, provided the perfect backdrop for exploring the art, culture, and religious history of the Middle Ages.
Throughout the day, students analyzed remarkable artifacts firsthand, including the famous Unicorn Tapestries, intricate illuminated manuscripts, and centuries-old stained glass. Connecting these visual masterworks directly to their AP coursework helped deepen their understanding of medieval European society, global trade networks, and cultural exchange.
A huge thank you to Ms. Kelty and Ms. Palma for organizing and leading such a memorable and enriching learning experience for our students!

Biology Honors students became field ecologists during a hands-on Biodiversity and Invasive Species lab! Exploring the area behind the soccer field and along the Overpeck Park tree line, students observed and photographed local plants, insects, and wildlife.
Using species identification tools, students examined species richness, assessed the effects of human disturbance, and evaluated threats posed by invasive species such as the spotted lanternfly. The outdoor experience brought classroom concepts to life while encouraging students to take a closer look at the ecosystems in their own backyard!

Five LHS debate pairs represented Leonia at the Varsity Debate Tournament at North Bergen High School, gaining valuable experience and taking on new challenges!
Seniors Olivia Gwak and Christopher Lau finished the day with a 2-2 record. Olivia also placed fourth in individual speaking points, finishing just one point shy of a tie for third! Seniors Gangmin Lee and Michael Lee, along with our three other pairs, competed in their first-ever varsity debate matches, building their skills and confidence against experienced competition.
We are proud of all our debaters for challenging themselves, supporting one another, and representing LHS with enthusiasm!
The team returns to competition on Tuesday, November 10, for JV at Emerson High School and Friday, November 13, for Varsity at Westwood High School.

Consistent attendance and punctuality are two of the most important factors in a student’s success at LHS. At Leonia High School, absences and tardies are tracked closely, and students risk losing credit for courses if they exceed the allowed number of absences. Being on time to school and to every class is just as important, as it minimizes disruptions and helps students stay fully engaged in their learning. Regular attendance builds strong academic habits, keeps students connected to their teachers and peers, and ensures they don’t fall behind. We encourage families to schedule all appointments after school hours whenever possible to limit time away from class. Please take a few minutes to review the full attendance policy and guidelines in the Student Handbook so that expectations are clear for both students and parents.

A reminder for families: All students are required to use their district-issued iPads while in school. Students should bring their iPad to school every day, fully charged and ready for use. Personal tablets, iPads, laptops, or MacBooks may not be used during the school day.
If a student forgets their district-issued iPad at home, a loaner device will not be issued. Loaner iPads are reserved only for students whose district-issued iPad is being repaired by the school.
Additionally, to help maintain a focused learning environment:
- Cell phones, AirPods, earbuds, and headphones are not permitted at any time.
- Meta glasses and other smart glasses are not permitted at any time.
Thank you for partnering with us to ensure that students come to school prepared, engaged, and ready to learn each day.
