As we head into an exciting weekend at Leonia High School, I encourage everyone to come out and support our talented Limelighters in their Spring Musical. Their dedication and hard work always shine through on stage, and it is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the arts in our school community.
As a reminder, the third marking period will come to a close on Monday, March 30, with the fourth marking period beginning on Tuesday. This is an important time for students to stay focused and finish the year strong.
Next week will be a shortened week, with spring break beginning on Friday. At the same time, our spring sports teams will kick off their regular seasons, and we will be in full swing across campus. Hopefully, the weather will soon turn toward warmer, sunnier spring days as our students take to the fields, courts, and track.
Spring break offers a well-timed opportunity for students and staff to rest and recharge before we begin the final push toward the end of the school year. The months ahead are filled with important events and milestones leading up to the last day of school and graduation on June 25, and we look forward to a strong finish for all of our students.
GO LIONS!

To support a school environment where students can fully engage with their teachers and classmates, I would like to remind you of the district's policy regarding electronic communication devices. Please be advised that Meta Glasses and all other Smart Glasses are not permitted to be worn or used in the school building.
Under District Policy 5516, these items are classified as electronic communication devices because of their capability to record audio or video and transmit information. To protect the privacy rights of our students and staff and to prevent disruptions to the educational program, students cannot have these devices on while in school.
Should a student be found with Meta Glasses or other Smart Glasses, the device will be confiscated by a staff member and turned in to the Vice Principal, Mr. Anthony Servis. We thank you for your continued cooperation in ensuring our school remains a focused and respectful learning environment.
Students and parents are encouraged to review Policy 5516 for more detailed information regarding the use of electronic communication devices. This policy is available for review in the Student Handbook on the LHS website or on the Leonia Schools Website under District Policies.

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing the way we live, learn, and work. This summer, students will have the opportunity to explore that world firsthand through an in person, project based AI program hosted at Leonia High School and run by Inspirit AI, an enrichment program developed and taught by Stanford and MIT alumni.
Open to students entering grades 6 through 12, the program introduces the core concepts behind artificial intelligence and how tools like ChatGPT and other generative AI systems are built. Students will learn to program AI using Python, examine topics such as ethics and bias, and collaborate on a hands on project applying AI to areas such as sustainability, healthcare, disaster relief, music, or the arts. No prior computer science experience is required, and advanced cohorts will be available. Separate sections will be offered for middle and high school students.
The program includes 30 hours of instruction and mentorship from Stanford, MIT, and Ivy League graduate students and industry professionals who will travel to Leonia to lead the experience.
An early bird discount is now available. Students who apply by March 31 will receive 25 percent off the $1,600 program fee.
Families interested in learning more are encouraged to review the program brochure and complete the interest form using the links provided. All questions regarding registration, curriculum, logistics, or payment should be directed to Inspirit AI.

Leonia High School students made an impressive showing at the Terra North Jersey STEM Fair, demonstrating both innovation and dedication in a highly competitive field.
Sean Addy earned Honorable Mention in Engineering for his project, "Creating a Senor-based Prototype Using a Microcontroller to Improve Public Awareness of Air Quality Issues", which was supported by the Jahnan Foundation. It was especially meaningful to have the foundation’s representatives in attendance during the public exhibition to see his work firsthand.
In addition, Rachel Hwang was recognized with an award in Geoscience, for her project "Neighborhood-Scale Microclimate & Air Quality Monitoring in Bergen County, NJ", further highlighting the strength of our students across multiple STEM disciplines.
This year’s competition was particularly rigorous, with just over half of participants advancing from the initial virtual judging round to the in-person poster exhibition. Earning recognition at this level is a testament to the hard work, creativity, and perseverance of our students.
The Terra Science and Education Fair provides students with the opportunity to engage in authentic research and engineering experiences while sharing their work within a broader scientific community. Programs like this continue to inspire the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.

A reminder for families: all students are required to use their district-issued Chromebooks while in school. Students should bring their Chromebooks to school every day, fully charged and ready for use. Please note that personal laptops or MacBooks may not be used during the school day.
If a student forgets their Chromebook at home, they will not be issued a loaner. Loaner devices are reserved only for students whose district-issued Chromebook is undergoing repair.
Additionally, to help maintain a focused learning environment:
- Cell phones, AirPods, and headphones may not be used during instructional time.
- Meta glasses and other smart glasses are not permitted at any time.
Thank you for partnering with us to ensure students are prepared and focused during the school day.

Leonia High School students continue to make impressive strides in the Stock Market Game as competition intensifies across the region and state. The Northern Region – High School Division now includes 542 teams, with 2,082 teams participating statewide.
This week’s top Leonia teams are:
-
Samar Sharma & Noah Caba (Region: 1/542, State: 6/2082)
-
Allen Mirek (Region: 8/542, State: 29/2082)
-
Misaki Takei (Region: 160/542, State: 709/2082)
As global events continue to influence the market, many students shifted their strategy this week. After previously examining industries impacted by the conflict in Iran, students began researching companies and sectors that remain stable despite international tensions.
One team reflected on their approach to digital media investments, sharing how gains in Netflix led them to explore similar opportunities: they identified Walt Disney as a strong option due to its ability to produce original content and expand across streaming, television, and gaming. They also noted the company’s recent growth and long-term potential.
Another student highlighted Celsius Holdings, an energy drink company gaining popularity among health-conscious consumers. The student pointed to the company’s rapid growth and a key distribution partnership with PepsiCo as indicators of future success, while also recognizing the challenges posed by strong competition in the market.
Through this work, students are not only tracking stocks but also developing a deeper understanding of how global events, consumer trends, and business strategies shape financial markets in real time.

French II students recently brought their learning to life with a creative project titled “Le Menu.” At the conclusion of their food unit, students designed their own French restaurant menus, complete with traditional courses such as an entrée, plat principal, dessert, and beverages.
Each menu was thoughtfully created by hand, combining students’ growing French vocabulary with cultural research to produce authentic and detailed work. The project not only showcased their language development, but also gave them the chance to express their creativity.
This engaging assignment allowed students to make meaningful connections between their classroom learning and real-world cultural experiences, offering a taste of France right here at LHS.

Leonia High School is proud to celebrate an outstanding winter sports season and congratulate all of our student-athletes and coaches for their hard work, dedication, and commitment.
This year was especially memorable, as four of our teams captured league championships: Wrestling, Girls Swimming, Boys Swimming, and Bowling. These accomplishments reflect not only talent, but the discipline and teamwork that define our athletic programs.
We are also proud to recognize three of our girls who earned First Team All-Bergen County honors, Senior Angelica Do (Basketball), Senior Iris Kim (Swimming), and Freshman Eleanor Jang (Indoor Track). They were celebrated at the BCWCA All-County Dinner on Tuesday evening, a well-deserved recognition of their exceptional performances.
Congratulations to all of our winter athletes for representing Leonia with pride.
