As we begin the second marking period, Mr. Servis and I met with each grade level to check in and set the tone for the weeks ahead. We shared how pleased we’ve been with the start of the school year. The building has had great energy, and our students have been engaged, involved, and supportive of one another. There has been excellent work happening in classrooms across the school. We encouraged students to stay connected and continue their involvement as the year moves forward.
We also spoke with students about the importance of checking their email every day. ParentSquare and StudentSquare remain our primary communication tools, and messages such as attendance notices, detention reminders, and event announcements all go directly to student email accounts. Checking once a day helps ensure they don’t miss anything important.
This coming week, our Student Services department will host its annual Post-Secondary Planning Night, on November 20th at 6PM. The presentation covers the college and career planning process, including applications, financial aid, testing, and timelines. Families in grades 9 through 11 are welcome to attend as they begin to think about future options.
Lastly, a reminder that next Saturday, November 22, is the annual LHS Holiday Market, which supports all four grade levels. We hope you’ll stop by and browse the holiday items available for purchase.
GO LIONS!

Dear Leonia High School Community,
The Student Services Department is excited to invite all families to our College Planning Night on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 6:00–8:00 PM in the Leonia High School Little Theater.
This presentation will provide an overview of the college and career planning process and all that it entails — from exploring options and preparing applications to understanding financial aid, testing, and timelines. While the event is open to all families, it will be especially helpful for those with students in grades 9–11 as they begin to think about their postsecondary goals.
We hope you’ll join us for this informative evening and take the next step in preparing for your student’s future!
Thank you,
LHS Student Services

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Service Club’s food drive. Your generosity allowed us to support about 20 Leonia and Edgewater families who were in immediate need of food and toiletries. Your kindness makes a meaningful difference in our community, and we’re grateful for your continued support.

World Cuisine students are diving into their Italy unit by making biscotti, a classic twice baked cookie. Most of the class has never tried biscotti, which is why it was the perfect choice to follow last week’s homemade pasta carbonara. They’ll wrap up the lesson by dunking their biscotti in coffee.

French II students wrapped up their housing unit with a hands-on project, where they designed and built their own dream homes. Using recyclable materials like bottle caps, cardboard, and small boxes, students created detailed models complete with furniture and decorations. Each room was labeled in French, giving them a practical way to apply their vocabulary while showing off their creativity. The project blended design, imagination, and language practice in a way that made the unit both memorable and meaningful.

The Leonia High School Boys and Girls Cross Country teams made history this weekend at the NJSIAA North 1 Group 2 Sectional Championship Meet at Garrett Mountain. The girls team, lead by All-State superstar Dominique Cameron, won their first ever team state sectional championship as they dominated the rest of the field. This was Dominique’s second consecutive individual title, she ran a blistering 18:12. This was the third fastest time at Garret Mountain in Bergen County History! Twin sister Daniella Cameron had an incredible race placing 3rd and running 18:55 with freshman phenom Eleanor Jang close behind finishing 5th! The duo of Annabel Sohn and Sophia Jorge continued their exceptional seasons placing 20th and 21st!
The boys team pulled off a stunner against the heavily favored Lakeland Lancers winning their first Sectional Championship since 1979! It was a complete team effort having 5 runners in the top 19. Junior Jeremy Garcia had an electrifying run for the win, becoming Leonia’s first individual sectional champion since 2008. Jeremy finished just ahead of teammate Calvin Daou who had an outstanding performance, Calvin finished second. Senior Luis Gonzalez continued his breakout season placing 11th with sophomores Diego Manzanarez and Jake Yoo placing 13th and 19th respectively.
Congratulations to the student athletes, Coach Ryan and Coach Shanno on this amazing and historic accomplishment. Up next for both teams is the NJSIAA Group 2 State Championship Meet on SaturdayNovember 8th. The meet will take place at Holmdel Park, start time for the girls is 9:30 and the boys start time will be 10:30.
