Welcome to Leonia High School

Leonia School District Update

District-wide, we had significant damage.
Anna C. Scott Elementary School:
The good news is there was no damage at ACS. ACS will not have any adjustments in their schedule or room assignments.
Leonia Middle School:
LMS has significant water damage in the cafeteria and one classroom.  Mr. Saco has developed a plan to have students eat lunch in their classrooms and still have opportunities for recess outside, weather permitting. The middle school administration will send out a detailed plan to the LMS community.
Leonia High School:
The major damage was flooding from Grand Ave. The water flowed down the hill into the entire first floor. As a result, the first floor is off-limits.  Classes have been moved into any available open space in the high school. The high school administration will send out a detailed plan to the LHS community.  Today, students can view their updated schedules with the modified room assignments.
The high school gym is located on the first floor. As a result, the gym floor needs to be replaced.
The turf field also has been damaged. The high school gym is located on the first floor. As a result, the gym floor needs to be replaced.  The turf field also has been damaged. We are waiting for an analysis by the turf specialists to learn the length of time the turf field will not be used. This impacts our high school PE classes and athletic teams, and the youth sports programs in town.
This week’s schedule:
Monday - Labor Day - no school
Tuesday - Rosh Hashanah - no school
Wednesday - we will replace the first day of school with last Thursday’s schedule which includes the second professional day for the staff, second professional day for the staff, and orientation programs for our 9th and 10th grades. Detailed information will be sent out by the administrators prior to Wednesday.
Thursday - the first day of school for all students. Thursday will be a FULL day of school.
Friday - a regular school day.
Please read any additional information sent out by me or the other school administrators. Our goal is to open school in person in a safe environment. The Ida damage needs all of us to work collaboratively to ensure the opening of our schools.
These times are even more challenging as a result of Ida. I am asking for the cooperation of everyone. The school community of Leonia and Edgewater has excelled due to the main focus of each one of us - our students. If you have any questions, please contact me or a building administrator.
Thank you,
Ed Bertolini
